Introduction

Unleashing The Krypsulkets is the first novel in the series The Margdonians. The books in the series should be read in the sequence in which they were written. There is much information, terminology, and experiences in each book that must be understood before the successive volume can be fully appreciated and comprehended.

A very important feature in books written by RJ Seney is his unique use of music in the eBook versions. Electronic book publishing has enabled music to be woven into the storyline throughout the series. The use of music brings a unique dimension to the story that is not found in other novels. It is not mandatory to listen to the music to understand the storyline. However, the music selected supports the emotion within the story or is the actual music that the character is listening to at that time.

The music within the eBook will not play automatically. To listen to the music, click (or press) on the music link in blue. The music link is embedded within the text and will be in square brackets like this: [Music: “xxxxxxxxx”, by xxxxxxxx]. An internet connection to your device is required for the music links to play and you will also need to establish an account on the Spotify Website. The account does not need to be a paid account. The free Spotify music service works perfectly fine. As of the writing of this book, RJ Seney and ZyLor Books have no affiliation with Spotify.

Once the music window comes up and begins to play the music, reselect your reader app window to return to the book. The music will continue to play in the background on most devices. Spotify has its own rules for playing music that the book will have no control over and you may need to stop the music from playing so Spotify does not begin to play another song.

If there are no specific instructions next to the link for listening to the music, simply listen to the music and then continue reading. Some music links in the book will suggest that you continue reading while listening to the music and other music links will suggest listening to the music before continuing to read. There are a couple of music links that will have you read for a bit while the music plays and then suggest that you stop reading at another location in the book to finish listening to the music. If the music link is at the end of a chapter, it is suggested to listen to the music before starting the next chapter.

Summer Storm

Sam listened to the howling wind coming through the edges of his old window sashes as rain pummeled the roof of the house. The rain sounded like marbles being blasted onto the roof above his head, making him wonder if it was hail or stones from a tornado. He was in his bedroom for the night, a small finished attic, wondering if the storm would tear the roof off what was a mere few inches from his face. The framing of the house creaked with each new burst of wind.

The only light in the room came from a laptop that Sam’s brother was using to play a video game in his bed. Suddenly the electricity went out, terminating the laptop’s connection to the internet. Alex swore at his laptop and then tossed it onto the floor next to his bed. Sam smiled in the dark.

“Should we go downstairs?” asked Sam.

“Go ahead scaredy-cat, before you wet your bed,” said Alex angrily.

“What if the roof is ripped off and we get sucked out of the house?”

Alex laughed, “What a stupid jerk.”

The sound of a tree falling next to the house made a loud cracking noise, followed by a thunderous crash. A limb hit the window and bounced back off, making the boys jump up in their beds. Alex sprang out of bed and hurriedly made his way over the stairs. Sam had also gotten up and was on his way too. Being closer to the stairs, he was in the lead. Alex ran into Sam and pushed him violently into the sloping wall to get him out of the way so he could go down first. Sam fell to the floor and quickly pushed himself away so he would not get stepped on by his older brother. A few seconds later he could hear Alex going down the rickety folding stairs in a panic. A couple seconds after that he heard Alex fall in the living room and swear. His parents soon opened up their bedroom door and made their way over to help him.

Sam picked himself up off the floor, felt his way back over to his bed, and then laid back down. He felt that it was a safer bet to weather the storm alone than to be in a room with his brother.

An intense flash of lightning briefly preceded a deafening clap of thunder that shook the little house and echoed off the mountains. Sam wondered why he wasn’t afraid. The storm was almost calming for him. After all, he now had the room to himself and didn’t need to fear his brother. He got back up to take advantage of the situation and shuffled over to the small window.  Alex “owned” the window and would never let Sam look out of it when he was around. When another lightning bolt flashed he saw the big old pine tree lying down in the driveway outside the window. It had barely missed the house and had taken down the power line running to the side of the building.

The wind picked up quickly, sounding like a freight train outside the house. The air whistled through the cracks of the windows unrelentingly, with water splashing against the window as if being shot out of a pulsing fire hose. He put his hands along the edge of the window to feel it. Water was now seeping through the edges and dripping down the wall below the window sill.

This was the biggest storm Sam had ever witnessed. His dad had told him of small tornadoes before, but he had never seen them. It was rare to have such storms in the Adirondack Mountains.

More noise came from outside that sounded like objects being thrown about. One of the objects hit their car. It didn’t faze Sam. He continued to look out, waiting for the next bright flash of lighting to light-up the area so he could see more of the destruction.

Sam stood in awe at the ferocity of the storm as it whipped the branches of the downed tree back and forth with ease, some of which did not flex, but snapped. He then thought about his tumultuous life and how he felt like those limbs. A tear began to roll down his cheek and glimmered in the next lighting streak across the sky.

“If you have so much power, then why can you not take me from here?” said Sam, sadly.

Sam continued to watch the storm until he became too tired to stand. He then went back to his bed and fell asleep, being content to be alone.
